Meet The Team

My name is Michael, I am 38 years old and I live in Wallasey, Merseyside, at the moment I am your sole candle/wax melt maker operating out of my home.

I previously worked mainly in customer service roles and currently work full-time within the public service sector, as well as producing home-made candles.

MichaelWhat got me into this?

I have suffered for a long time with anxiety and depression, so a friend of mine suggested taking up a craft as a new hobby.

I tried candle making and discovered I loved it, finding it massively therapeutic and relaxing. Candle-making allows me to switch off from the outside world, and I feel at one during the process. I thoroughly enjoy every part of producing candles and wax melts, garnering immense satisfaction from the end results.

Once I started making candles for myself, friends and family would call at my home and comment on the amazing fragrance; from here they asked would I mind making some for them too.

This progressed to their friends catching the candle-bug. From here, things quickly progressed and I found I was getting regular orders together with amazing feedback.

Nothing beats earning money doing something that I enjoy while making people happy at the same time.

Scent is a powerful thing: it can help calm and relax you when you are stressed out or anxious; it can energise you when life is taking its toll; it can bring a sense of cleanliness to your surroundings.

Smell is more powerful than many people realise. Located in the oldest part of the brain, the olfactory sense is in the same part of your brain which affects emotions, memory, and creativity. In fact, no other sense is associated so strongly with memory. Many scents are renowned for reducing feelings of anxiety and improving a low mood.

It's important to me to provide a personal feel to the products. I want you to love each and every one, and ultimately, to feel like I've made them especially for you- which of course I have!

Lots of things nowadays are done by machine, which is great for speed and efficiency; but knowing that someone has used their hands and diligence to create a product for your enjoyment? That just makes it that little bit more special.

I always try to accommodate any special requests wherever possible: very recently I was asked by a friend to make small wax melt gift boxes for their wedding favours, which I was keen to do. I was honoured to be asked to make something for such a special day.

I thrive on feedback, positive or constructive criticism, having started Signature Scents wanting to you to be delighted with the products you receive, They are, after all, made specially for you.

So, if there is something you don’t like or think can be improved, please don’t hesitate to have a chat with me about this.

With your feedback and help I can create the finest quality products, with a range that offers something for everyone.

My dream would be to generate enough sales and gain lots of happy customers, who want to buy again and again. Hopefully, one day, I will be able to afford a small unit to work from permanently, bringing you lots of amazing products at great prices.

I love using the products as well as making them. My personal four favourite scents are Baby Powder (I think everyone loves this one so far!), Lime Basil & Mandarin, Rhubarb & Rose, and Peony & Blush Suede. I love strong smells and having several pets this helps keep my home smelling fresh and clean.

My hobbies

  • Candle making (obviously!)
  • Animals and walking my dogs
  • Reading – I love crime thrillers and am always on the look out for recommendations
  • Photography – I am still learning this incredibly complex subject (about two years in and have just about got my head around using the camera in manual mode!)
  • Gym- I enjoy the gym a lot when I get there, although I’m sure like a lot of people, I find it easier to go to the fridge for food. I do aim to turn this around in time.
  • Practising mindfulness and taking some time out. I’ve found that doing this daily, even for 2 minutes, has a massive impact on the way we feel and ultimately the way the day goes.
  • Trying new foods. I love food with my favourite Chinese or Thai, and I am always keen to try new foods.
